Bathroom Vanity Countertops + Giveaway

One area in our home that we’re planning to focus on this year is a master suite, which includes the bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet. We haven’t done much to this area of the house besides installing a new toilet and painting the bathroom.

There’s a list of things we’d like to accomplish in the master bathroom– stain or paint the vanity, new countertops, sinks, faucets, spruce up the mirror, update the electrical outlets, and maybe get a new lighting fixture. We also need to install a new shower stall but that’s a whole different beast.

I’ve said a million times before–we live in a builder grade house, so the materials in our house are also builder grade. Since this isn’t our forever home, we don’t want to sink a ton of money into the bathrooms by buying new vanities. Which is why I’d like to stain or paint our current vanities and add hardware to give them updated looks.

When it comes to the countertops in general, you know my love of Formica® Laminate from our recent kitchen update. So I was elated when Formica Corporation® asked if I wanted to check out The Formica® Laminate Jonathan Adler Collection, which features three different patterns in various colors– Greek Key, Malachite, and Lacquered Linen. If bold is your thing, definitely check out the Greek Key and Malachite. The collection is available at Lowe’s home centers and select kitchen and bath distributors nationwide.

master vanity 2

As you can see, our current master bath countertop is pretty simple.

master countertops before 1

As is the countertop in our guest bathroom.

I’d also like to eventually update the guest bathroom vanity, mirror, and possibly the lighting fixture. We also need to swap out those outdated almond electrical outlets with white ones.

I decided to go with the Crème Lacquered Linen for both the master and guest bathroom countertops. I like how it’s modern and simple but there’s texture for visual interest. I think this design will look good with vanities stained or painted.

I can’t wait to get these bathroom updates underway!

We’d love to change out the countertops in our kitchen. The precious owners tiled them…. grout lines and porous tile aren’t exactly kitchen friendly and make it hard to keep clean.

We’ve moved into our home (along with my 80 year old Mom) back in June 2014. We just started updating 3 of the 4 bathrooms so a $100 Lowe’s gift card would help the cause! We need new counters in two of the bathrooms, all three need new toilets, hardware, lights and we’re also staining the vanities too!

Our kitchen and bathroom counter tops have to be replaced and I’ve decided to use Formica. Granite is lovely but Formica is the workhorse I need. Now that it comes in more up-to-date looks, my decision was made easier. I will need a light color for baths and a darker color for the kitchen. Thank you for this contest and all the information.

I really like the one you chose! I think for my bathroom I would have to go with the charcoal linen because when my husband trims his beard, the little hairs go everywhere! And sometimes they are impossible to wipe up so at least the dark colour will help camouflage it a bit. Do you have any ideas for changing the cabinet colour?

I currently rent, and I don’t think our landlord would be happy with any changes, but I can’t wait to have my own place to make mine! I know that the bathroom would be one of the first places that I’d want to personalize . . . and I’d have to do it on a budget!

I suspect that the linen print is very mid century. I am fairly certain that my grandparents had Formica with a very similar print in their kitchen built after WWII. But with metal edges.

I bought a house 2 years ago and didn’t realize that the previous owners had painted the counter tops as an “upgrade”. While it looked nice when I closed on the house 2 years later I have peeling counters and in a year will be having a wedding at my house. I am in desperate need of a solution for my not so pretty countertops! The gift card would be unbelievably helpful in our situation! 🙂

I have to comment that thanks to the Great Recession, after 20 years, we’re still living in our builder grade “starter home.” So, anyway, I would use Formica to replace the worn out formica in my kitchen and bathroom.

We have a 1980s builder grade house that we’ve lived in for just over a year. Very few changes were made by the previous owners. I’ve loved making it ours but have to work on a budget so this is a great alternative.

I love the look of the Charcoal Malachite, it would definitely make a statement in our master bath.

It is even in the bathrooms. Decorating is impossible with this terrible green color. I will do my kitchen first, then the bathrooms. Thank you so much for $100.00 giveaway to Lowes. If I would win it would go a long ways in getting my kitchen countertops done.
