Summer Styled Loft

I thought I’d give you a little update on our bonus room loft area at the top of our stairs. There are some new additions and summer touches to the space. And speaking of summer, if you’re coming over from Jenna Kate at Home, welcome!

See anything weird about the photo below? That’s a water-filled vase with flowers, agate, and book on a tray– at toddler eye level. So you know I only put them there for these photos. During nap time.

But in true Chelsea fashion, I knocked over the vase, spilling the water on the rug, and the water soaked through the rug to the carpet. So while I was afraid of my 15 month old getting his paws on the vase, it was my own self I should’ve been more concerned about. All is well though after soaking up the water with a towel, lifting the rug, and running a fan overnight. Never dull moment up in here.

I love this satin gold end table. It’s the perfect size and height, and it’s on sale for less than $60 right now.

The plant is real. It’s a Sansevieria from Costco. If you have a penchant for killing plants. GET THIS ONE. I remember to water it maybe once a month? And it can tolerate any type of light.

I’m just noticing that from far away, Emmett looks like Alfalfa with this fauxhawk in this pic.

You get a nice view of my beloved stairway light from the loft space. Sometimes, at night, I turn on the light, sit on the sectional and just stare at the light.

I mean, can you blame me?

You can read more about the light here.

I finally (kind of) styled the TV console. It’s not perfect but it’ll do with my faux maidenhair fern and fern. I think my pale pink lamps are fading and becoming paler, which makes me sad.

I often get questions about the sleeper sectional. We’re very happy with it, even though we don’t spend a ton of time up here. And everyone who has slept on the sleeper portion of the sectional has given it two thumbs up. I can’t comment on stains or anything because we don’t allow any food upstairs.

I finally got around to putting up a curtain rod. And one of my amazing readers, Kriti, offered to send me some beautiful hand dyed shibori curtains for the space.

Gorgeous, right?

shibori curtains

Alstroemeria for life! Seriously, the best fresh cut flowers for $4.

I have a hard time buying decorative accessories, or tchotchkes as I like to call them. I see them as dust collecting objects with no meaning. Some please feel free to counsel me and get me over this mental roadblock. I will, however, throw down some cash for an agate.

And that book isn’t just a pretty prop. I actually read it. It’ll probably be the only book I read in 2019, but I read it nonetheless.

I still have some work to do up here. I’m not loving how the wood of the vintage blue chair is clashing with the console table wood. The wall space by the blue chair needs something. And while they’re beautiful, I don’t know if the shibori curtains are meshing with the other blues in the room, so I may move them into our guest bedroom. But maybe I just need a couple more weeks of staring at the space to figure it out. I’d also like to add a real fiddle leaf fig up here. I think the room gets enough sunlight that one could survive.

  1. What a great bonus space, Chelsea! I love what you’ve done with it! And I feel like I am more prone to spills and accidents than my boys sometimes too, lol. Hope you’re having a great week!

  3. I have to disagree on your last comment on the curtains! I think they look great in here!

  4. I love those curtains, sooo fun and summery!! I think if you just added a darker blue throw pillow they would tie in better…but wherever they end up, I love them! Your home is just beautiful, Chelsea! So happy to be on this tour with you 🙂

    1. Ahh, yeah! I’m going to try that! Thanks so much, Jenna!

  5. Chelsea I think you have created such a beautiful space! I love the curtains and I agree with Jenna, grab another object or pillow with that same blue color and then they will tie in. Happy summer!

  6. Sheila Corcoran says:

I love the space the colors, the curtains are beautiful. I would either put a dark blue small pillow in the blue chair to tie all the dark blues together, or replace the vintage chair with a dark blue chair to add weight to that side of the room and tie the blues together.
