Spring Moss Monogram Wreath

I recently made this moss monogram wreath for decoration at a friend’s bridal shower but you could me used for many things. It could be used as part of wedding decor or just a regular spring wreath on your front door.
This was a fairly inexpensive project– about $10. I picked up a moss table runner and a 12″ paper mache “N” from JoAnn Fabric (coupons in hand). I also got some ivory poly-satin from Hobby Lobby (with a coupon, of course).

I began by spray painting the letter green with spray paint I already had. After the paint was dry I started gluing on the moss.

When the letter was covered on all sides, I cut a piece of the poly-satin and attached it to the back. I took another piece of fabric to make the bow. Then I secured the bow to the top.

  5. Um, can you do a bow tying tutorial? You’ve got the magic touch.

  6. That’s adorable! I love moss projects–they look so springy and happy. I have no advice on the door; that must be some INTENSE sun heat to melt it. But your last name doesn’t start with an N, does it?

  7. Chelsea – You need a craft room. That way your husband doesn’t have to put up with the DIY mess. There is your arguement. I started mine in our old apartment with a corner of the guest bedroom.

    1. Sadly, I do have a home office/craft room. It’s been under construction for some time. The husband reminds me multiple times throughout the week of its existence.

  8. I love this project. I have a question though, Do you really hang this on the door, with the sun beating on it all day? I too have a metal front door which gets direct sun. It has a storm door also, which kind of creates an oven effect. Using hot glue, I’m afraid it will melt & release? Any thoughts? I made the jute wrapped letter w/burlap flowers, but keep it on my mantle due to the hot glue app.

    1. Good point, Gayle. I’ve been leaving the screen part of the door open so it doesn’t become an oven, but once the temperatures really start to heat up I’ll have to bring it inside. We’re never buying a West-facing house again for this exact reason.

  9. When my wedding is over, I’m going to tackle some of the projects you’ve posted!

  10. I definitely love this idea and actually gave it as a couple Christmas presents this year. For spring this just adds a little bit of class to every door. xo

  11. Love the monogram, and sweet Jack!
We had the exact same problem when we lived in Indiana, weird, no? Anyway, we never remedied it, just got transferred 😉 I’m thinking you could caulk around the window to hide some of the imperfections and then I would just slap on some fresh paint to hide it all. Doors are expensive and not always easy to install. The sell UV window film, I think installing some of the storm door would really help.
I’m painting my front door as soon as the weather is a bit more predictable…either going black or very dark navy…

  12. Love it! I often bribe J with Orange Leaf…we have so many punch cards, we’re up for 2 free cups of froyo!

    1. Way to be. Brad killed me when we went last night. He didn’t know that it was priced by the ounce… So we spent $13 on frozen yogurt. $13! I will say that he was pretty cute when we got in the car, and I said, “Did you not know that it’s priced by the ounce?”

  13. Gorgeous! i admire your amperstand each time I visit!! Thank you for sharing the tute!Have a wnderful evening!! 🙂

  15. Holy smokes melted door!?! Hope you find an inexpensive solution. Going to give this project a whirl next weekend. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Very cute! I have a huge paper mâché letter waiting for a project like that. As for the door, I’d probably still try to paint the frame that is warping, but I’m really not sure.

  17. i have never heard of a door melting before! i am with the others, try caulking and painting it and hopefully it will look seamless? Better than buying a whole new door!!

looove the moss letter, it’s awesome!

  18. I just love it. I have been wanting to make one. I love those letters from JoAnn’s. Thanks for sharing at DIYbyDesign.

  19. I love it. The way you attached the ribbon makes it look so polished, lovely! We get some serious heat on our front door and our paint has faded but that melting is crazy!

  20. I love the moss wreath, pinning it now! An dI’m impressed by how you photographed it on the wall instead of the (admittedly) ugly door. So happy I found you from 36th Ave, I’m your newest follower.

  23. I know this is a couple years too late, BUT…
I had that issue with a front door before.. My home faced east.. the problem is that the glass on the storm door acts like the car in the summer with the “greenhouse effect”. In the summer (I know defeats the purpose) you have to change out the glass with a screen. You wont have as bad an issue. OR…. change out that storm door with one that has a rolling screen inside it.. then you can crack the screen partially to get air movement to it but still have the glass..

ALSO.. if you get a new storm door, a fresh coat of automotive paint on it will give great color and clean up nice if you’re ever looking for a custom color. A coat of car wax keeps it nice too.
