Preggo Style

This post is brought to you by Maxi-Cosi. As always, opinions are 100% my own.

I’m not a fashion blogger. I’ve never claimed to be. But today I’m going to share my number one personal preggo style tip. It’s nothing ground breaking because while I like and appreciate fashion, I don’t spend my days browsing fashion blogs or magazines for inspiration.

Alright, here’s my amazing tip: dresses– specifically maxi dresses. I’ve lived in maxi dresses throughout this pregnancy. Thankfully, I could were most of my empire waist maxi dresses I’ve worn the past couple summers. I did order some extra ones to have because, like I said, I’ve lived in them. And I plan to wear them after the nugget makes his appearance.

Before it was warm enough, I would wear dresses with leggings. Because leggings are basically pajama pants that are tight on your legs. I will say that I in no way support leggings as pants. Leggings with knee length dresses: yes. Leggings with t-shirt: NO. Just wanted to clear that up.

Another tip is accessories. Feeling extra bloated? Slap on a giant pair of earrings. Everyone will notice your earrings, not your swollen cankles.

You can buy the most basic maxi dress and dress it up or down with accessories. Like the gray Seraphine maxi dress below. You could easily wear it to run errands during the day. Then jazz up the accessories to go out to dinner at night . Yet another reason why maxi dresses have been my jam– they’re multi-functional.

  1. you know what? i just can’t get behind maxi dresses – even before i was pregnant (currently 8 months) i just couldn’t feel comfortable in them. i always feel like they make me seem short, and i’m average height 5’4″ – from what i recall you are on the taller side, right? where does the dress hit on you usually? does it make you feel shorter?

    1. That stinks. I’m 5’10”. They don’t make me feel shorter. I have different dresses that hit at different lengths. Most hit a few inches above the ground. I think if they hit too far up they can make you feel shorter though.

  2. I love these dresses! When I was pregnant I had a few cute outfits but for the most part it was maternity jeans and t-shirts!

  3. I loooooved the comment about large earrings masking all that bloating!! I’m 2 days away from the big 30 weeks and I have to say, I’m starting to see a few more swollen appendages here and there, mostly fingers and toes!! Maxi dresses have definitely helped me in the Carolina heat! Love this post and we’re all fashion divas in our own little way!!!

  4. I love me some maxi dresses but my husband hates when I wear them. It’s horrible. He likes a little leg, so I live in sundresses when pregnant with my nuggets!

  5. I have never tried maxi dresses before! I feel like they make me feel short when I wear them, but reading the comments above, maybe I just need to find some that are long enough for me! The earrings is a great tip though! Gotta remember this all when we have kids!

  6. I love ALL dresses, but my biggest tip: Bike shorts! My thighs have rubbed together since I was ten years old (true story. Always been a curvy girl, even at 100 lbs). If I don’t wear shorts under my dress I get a mean case of heat rash/chaffing that just doesn’t stop. I also like the compression they give, a little extra support on the tum, and a little smoothing to my backside. Plus, I can bend over without flashing anyone, and that’s always a plus.

    1. I have a pair of men’s boxer briefs that I wear under all my skirts and dresses, thanks to the darn chafing. But they’re a godsend.

  7. I have 3 maxi dresses – one maternity from Old Navy, one non-maternity from Marshall’s (which has inspired compliments from strangers each time I’ve worn it) and a new one (again, non-maternity) from Target which I just got. I love how I can wear them comfortably in mid-Atlantic heat but should be able to throw on a sweater to make it school-appropriate when I start back this month. Love your preggo posts and hope all is well with you and your little one!

  8. LOVE maxi dresses… Pregnant or not!! Especially like tjay white one with those accessories. Too cute!!

  9. Great tips for the preggers out there. I’ve shared them with my 5 mo pregnant cousin. Now I need to go find her some big earrings. 🙂

  10. I wish Maxi dresses were in style back when I was pregnant. They look so chic and you can go just about anywhere in one. I wore lots of clothes from a line of jersey knit clothes that were called ” Multiples” . They got me through in style. I could have use some statement earrings though 🙂

  11. I’m not preggo but I look like it so this applies. 🙂 That being said, I’m obsessed with those gold tipped flip flops! LOVE!

  12. 34 weeks and I LOVE my maternity shorts, maxi dresses, maxi skirts and slip on sandals. I’m still campus/work appropriate and comfortable. For home I live in yoga foldover pants, some maternity some not.

The hard part is finding maxis that are long enough for my 5’10” and don’t hit me in the middle of my shins. I HATE that!
