Organized Mani-Pedi Caddy

Ah, mani-pedis, some girls’ weekly splurge. I, on the other hand, am not a mani-pedi girl. In fact, I feel slightly toolish saying “mani-pedi”.

I dislike manicures because I don’t really like wearing fingernail polish– I prefer my naturally french tipped fingernails (seen here). And the last time I had a professional pedicure was before our wedding 2 years ago. I’m cool with pedicures, I just never have the desire to get them. That and I have beastly feet.

So with all that said, I give myself mani-pedis in the privacy of my own home. I save money and save a poor soul from having to manhandle my Sasquatch feet.

The contents of the caddy include:

• nail polish remover (non-acetone and acetone)
• cotton balls and cotton swabs
• nail tools (nail clippers, cuticle pushers, cuticle nipper, emery board)
• nail polish

I keep the tools in a drawstring bag I received with some bliss beauty samples. I’m all about reusing random things rather than going out and buying something new.

Whenever I need to trim and file my fingernails or give myself a pedicure, I grab the caddy from under my bathroom sink and get to work. It’s nice because everything I need is in one place.

Some of you may wonder why I use acetone and non-acetone nail polish remover. For the most part I use non-acetone nail polish remover because it’s gentler than acetone. I use acetone nail polish remover for harder-to-remove nail polishes– like ones with big pieces of glitter.

Do you have a system for organizing your nail products?

  1. Yeah, I am in the same boat as you. I don’t ever get manicures or pedicures either. I would rather buy products I can use over and over than on one mani-pedi. I love Bliss products and love your organization.

  2. I mostly give myself manis and pedis. I do enjoy a good pedi in the summer, like maybe before a vacation; and I recently discovered the wonder that is shellac, but I only kept it up for 2 visits to the salon (and removed it myself). But honestly, I’d much rather use those funds towards clothes or something for our house!

  3. I’m not a mani-pedi girl either. I NEVER wear fingernail polish and only do toes in the summer. Plus I saw this show on dateline about the water in those foot spas at most mani-pedi places. Lemme tell you, I cannot get the horrors of what was found in the “clean” water out of my mind, so I’ll scrub my own tootsies thank you.

  4. I used to work in a salon and get my nails done for free. I really miss it. But I’d rather spend the money on something else than splurge on a mani-pedi.

  5. I work with an entire office of “mani-pedi girls”, but I can’t bring myself to have that extra expense and frankly I don’t have the time to sit there and get them done. I’d much rather just give myself an at-home pedicure while catching up on my favorite shows, and then work on the blog while it dries.

I have a similar container under my sink with all my nail supplies and it really does make it so easy to just grab everything and do your nails quickly – no more digging around in the drawers for a file, nail polish, etc. Never thought of having two different nail polish removers for different polishes – smart!

  6. I’m a “do your toes at home” kind of gal too! I love that you put this kit together! I’m always misplacing my nail polish remover so this could come in handy!

  7. It IS toolish to say “mani-pedi.” I get pedicures (not regularly) because I like to be pampered. I don’t even care if they paint my nails. 🙂

  8. I’m sorry to admit, I’m totally a salon girl! I’ve tried over the years to do them myself, but I am just terrible at it! I get polish everywhere, miss half my nail, and smudge almost immediately! I see it as paying for the peace of mind…I like to think DIY-ing in other aspects of my life makes up for it :). I do attempt touch ups and the like, so I do love the idea of keeping all your tools together and organized!
