Halloween Entryway Decorations

If you couldn’t tell by my front porch Halloween decorations, I’m a big fan of the black and purple color combo for Halloween. Probably because I like purple more than orange.

A few years ago, I decorated our entryway for Halloween with a black and purple theme, and then I proceeded to take two years off from decorating for Halloween. But this year I decided to bring it back. I used almost all of the stuff from my 2012 vignette but I changed things up a bit.

A couple months ago, when Brad and I were cleaning out our guest bedroom closet, Brad tried to talk me into donating this black lamp. I told him it would come in handy down the road.

Look who was right.

Believe or not, the black lamp shade is from Walmart. To up the spooky factor, I put a black light lightbulb in the lamp.

The owl is a Target Dollar Spot find from a few years ago. And I whipped up the sparkly BOO letters. Here’s the tutorial in case you ever have the urge to glitter bomb paper mache letters.

I made the letters back in 2012 and they still look perfect. In case you’re wondering, I wrap each letter in packaging paper, tape them off with washi tape, stack the letters, and put them in a plastic grocery bag.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of these spider tea light candle holders.

The pedestal stand was a thrift store find that I spray painted black. The short pumpkin is from Hobby Lobby and the tall pumpkin is another Target Dollar Spot find.

I picked up the cat banner a couple years ago at the Target Dollar Spot.

To hang the cat banner, I adhered 2 Commandâ„¢ Party Banner Anchors, one on each side of the entryway table. Then, I wrapped each end of the cat banner around the party banner anchors a few times to secure it in place.

Surprisingly, Owen hasn’t tried to rip the banner down. Yet.

I’m going to take a wild guess and say that I probably have more feather boas than the average American female. But I think they come in handy when decorating for certain holidays. Plus, they don’t take up that much storage space.

I wrapped two back boas around our entryway mirror and I LOVE it. I mean, how many feather-trimmed mirrors have you seen in your life? I bet this is one the firsts. I’m such a trendsetter.

Now let’s talk about the flying bats. Pretty cool, right? In my 2012 vignette I attached the bats (from the Target Dollar Spot) to the mirror, but this year I wanted it to look like they were hovering over the entryway table.

To start, I adhered 3 Command™ Party Ceiling Hooks to the smooth ceiling surface above the entryway table.

Then, I cut 3 pieces of clear fishing line and tied the line to each wing of the bat, making kind of a handle. Next, I cut 3 pieces of fishing line to different lengths and tied each string to a bat and then tied the other end of the string to each party ceiling hook.

And there you have it, my Halloween entryway decorations.

Remember that you don’t always have to go out and buy brand new decorations every year or every other year. Just rework what you already have.

  1. I love decorating the entryway in our house as well! What a fun color combo and I am absolutely loving that black lamp! It’s so fun going through decorations every year and re-working them into something new! Great ideas as always.

  2. I love purple with black. I’m so bad with halloween decorating. I tend to decorate for fall more so than halloween specifically. I imagine as the house gets more together and Zoey gets older we’ll have more fun with it tho! I love the little bats dangling from the ceiling.

  3. This looks so fun! I love that you put a blacklight in the lamp too!
