If you follow me on social media, you may know that Owen recently had croup, an infection in the upper airway that obstructs breathing and causes a characteristic barking cough. Thankfully it was a mild case, but it was still the sickest he has ever been. I also just got over a 2 week sinus infection, and I was nice enough to pass it on to Brad last week. #WifeOfTheYear.
With all of us coming down with stuff, I decided to do a little winter disinfecting.
Now, I try not to go overboard on disinfecting every last inch of our house because living in a completely sterile environment isn’t good. But there are certain things I like to clean and disinfect regularly, other than the obvious germy areas and rooms, with my Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.
Let’s face it, our smartphones are probably the most disgusting, germ riddled things because we touch them all the time. For this reason, I wipe mine down at least once a week.
2. keyboard and mouse
I disinfect my computer keyboard and mouse maybe 2-3 times a year but that’s because I work at home. If I worked in an office setting I’d definitely disinfect more often because I’d be touching things other people touch and then heading back to my desk to put my now germy hands all over my keyboard and mouse. If you have a phone at your work desk, I’d also hit that with some disinfecting wipes as well.
3. doorknobs and light switches
These are probably the two most touched things in rooms so it only makes sense to disinfect them regularly.
4. bottom of purse and diaper bag
I got a new diaper bag for Christmas, and it’s a backpack because I’ve found that I need both hands with a mobile toddler, so it isn’t that gross… yet. But think about it, you’re always putting your bags on the floor at restaurants, and then bringing it home and setting it down. Which is another reason why I hang my purse and the diaper bag at home instead of setting them down on our kitchen island.
5. steering wheel
Whenever I come home from being out of the house, whether to run errands or take Owen to the library, I always wash my hands. It’s a habit I started years ago. So it only makes sense to disinfect my steering wheel once in a while since that’s one of the last things I touch before I come into the house.
Fingers crossed we can keep the cold and flu at bay for the rest of this winter.
