Easy Art: Framed Ticket Stubs

In case you haven’t caught on, I like to save things. Some may define it as borderline hoarding, but I call it treasuring memories. It’s not like I’m holding on to empty milk jugs and cereal boxes. So there.

One of the things I like to save are ticket stubs from important events. I’m not talking about a regular movie ticket stub– those get thrown away. See, I’m definitely not a hoarder. I’m talking about ticket stubs from vacations. As you can see below, I framed the ticket stubs from my visits to the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. To me, they’re like little pieces of art. And I love how the Louvre ticket is stamped with the date and the cost of the ticket.

The framed Paris themed ticket stubs are currently residing at the top of my home office gallery wall.

I recently got around to framing Brad and I’s tickets from the Zac Brown Band concert we went to last summer. Why did I frame these? Well, because they were my first wedding anniversary gift to Brad. According to tradition, your first wedding anniversary gift is supposed to be paper. I gave myself a pat on the back for coming up with the ticket idea.

We’ll never forget that concert. Partly because it was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and partly because we had never sweat so much in our entire lives just standing still. This was an outdoor concert in 104 degree humid heat. We brought extra bottles of water, and I brought a couple mini menopausal neck fans to try to keep cool. But seriously, if there was a call out for wet t-shirt contestants I would have volunteered just to be doused with water. Cross my heart.

I recently came across my ticket stub from when I kissed the Blarney Stone. I still need to frame it. I mean, how could I not frame it? Making out with a piece of rock on a castle while being dangled seven stories high is definitely a monumental event in one’s life.

So the next time you’re on vacation consider holding on to your ticket stubs. I think they’re pretty cool pieces of one’s personal history. And they’re easy and interesting pieces of art to have in your home.

Do you hold on to ticket stubs? Did you give paper gifts for your first wedding anniversary? Have you ever been to the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, or Blarney Castle?

  1. That’s a great idea! Great post and love the frames on the wall.

  2. I love meaningful art, as a teen I saved every stub from everything, then in my 20’s I thought I didn’t need that childish stuff anymore and I think I tossed it out. And my eyes are bad now, I thought yours was a stub from BARNEY castle and a rock climbing wall.

  3. Love this! I totally hang on to ticket stubs (movies included). I’ve got a box full of them!

I frame all of my Broadway programs when I go to a show, so I’ve got a display of those. But I LOVE how you did the ones from Paris! I’m totally going to copy that when we go in the fall!

  4. Super fun idea! I’m horrible for saving things. Just a few weeks ago I took my daughter for her very first hair cut. I had the hairdresser save every last piece of hair so I could put it in the baby book. 2 weeks later the hair is still riding around in a ziplock bag in my purse (a bit creepy perhaps?). Hopefully it’s the thought that counts? It will make it into her baby book eventually. I need to get better at these types of things.
btw – totally jealous that you got to see Zac Brown Band – even if it was crazy, crazy hot!

  5. That is such a cute idea to do concert tickets for a first year anniversary. My husband and I bought plane tickets for ours, but that is not really something you can frame. The sad part is that most concerts or events that you go to now don’t give you actual tickets, instead you have to print them, which do not look as nice.

BTW, totally understand about the concert in the heat. I went to see Bob Dylan a couple of summers ago and it was just miserably hot. My husband wanted to hold hands, but I would only let him hold my pinkie because it just made me even hotter. 🙁

  6. I’m totally with you. I have baseball games, football games (Steelers only!), concerts, plays… My friends and I used to keep our movie stubs a long time ago, when we all had nothing to do but go to the movies! 🙂 I just recently found one from us going to see Scream… the original Scream, soooo long ago. 🙂

  7. I’m a little it of a hoarder too. I have a box of ticket stubs I love this idea! Especially the Louvre with the picture! I think I’ll be making some new additions to my gallery wall! Thanks!

  8. I also love to call it treasuring memories! I have a ton of this stuff. I kinda wanna frame and shadow box all kinds of things. 🙂 you’re not alone.

  9. Great idea! They look cool and graphic framed too, which is a total bonus. I’d keep anything I had from a visit to the Eiffel Tower, so I don’t blame ya!

  10. Oh I like that idea! I have journals from all my travels, but this could be a new nice way to remember them, instead of the books tucked away on a shelf.

  11. Gorgeous! I just love your gallery wall. I literally just stumbled upon our tickets from the Eiffel Tower a few days ago when I *gasp* needed a bag other than a nappy bag to take out! There they were tucked in a little pocket. I think they may need to go in a frame. Do you think they’ll fade? Sometimes the funny paper and print tends to fade rather quickly. Perhaps not being exposed to the air they won’t fade as fast…

I just referenced your lovely nail-head corkboard over on my blog 🙂 thank you for the inspiration! Love your blog!

  12. Oh I love the idea! Right now I just have a big box that I toss items like that into – many years ago I used to make scrapbooks & I think I still save these types of items because of that, but don’t have anywhere to put them & certainly don’t want to make scrapbooks with them! I think I’ll have to pick out some favorites and give them a place of honor on the wall!

  13. We save tickets and wristbands from special dates!
We actually still have the movie ticket from our first date, Saw 3.

  14. I love this idea! It’s funny you just posted this because last night my boyfriend and I had top of the line tickets for the fanciest suite at an NBA game (we were given the tickets, we’d never pay that much for seats) and my boyfriend said we should save our tickets and frame them! Anyway, I used to scrapbook so I save everything too. Although I haven’t done any scrapbooking in years, so now it’s probably considered hoarding! I think I’ll frame some of the tickets and hang them in our gallery wall like you did…then it’s not considered hoarding, right?

  15. That is a neat idea! I probably have some ticket stubs in with all of the pictures of my Japan trip. Haven’t been to the blarney stone, but we saw an itty bit of it at a park in Texas. Does that count? 🙂

  16. this is great! can I ask what size frame you found that so perfectly holds two ticket stubs?

    Hi,

I have my anniversary coming up and want to frame the ticket stubs to our first date in the same way you framed the concert tickets. Do you have any websites or specific places to go and do this.

    Thanks,
    Martin
