Blogiversary Questions Answered

You guys asked a boatload of questions 2 weeks ago. I answered all your blog related questions here and here. Today I’m answering your personal questions. You’ll learn about my favorite beauty products, which decor trend I wish would go away forever, my go-to dinner recipes, and more. Super exciting stuff.

How’s the kitchen cabinet painting coming along?
It’s not. We’re hoping to start that project in March. How is it March already?

What is your favorite place to find great deals for your home?
Thrift shops (Goodwill, Goodwill Outlet), Craigslist, Home Goods, Target, Ikea.

Where do you typically start when decorating a room?
I start by picking out the color scheme. Then, if needed I paint the room accordingly. It typically takes me a long time to put an entire room together. Shoot, it’s taken me over a year and a half to get my home office together. A lot goes into completely redoing a room– money, time, finding the right pieces, etc.

What’s your fave current decor trend and which do you wish would just go away forevs?
I’m digging wood planked walls– the new exposed brick. I’m not a big fan of all the cowhides. They kinda creep me out. I mean, I know the cows are slaughtered for their meat anyway. I picture myself walking on a cow, and it doesn’t evoke happy feelings.

What are some of your favorite hair/beauty products?
My favorite hair product (Redken Contouring Lotion 08) was discontinued about 2 years ago. I only have 3 bottles yet. I’m having kind of a crisis because I don’t know what I’ll  do when I run out. I’ve been using this gel on my curly locks since I was 14. I’m taking gel recommendations. I use Bare Minerals makeup. I swear by my Clarisonic Mia. It’s pricey but so worth it. Read more about my favorite beauty products here.

What is your favorite project you’ve ever made?
Probably my dresser turned TV stand.

What is your dream job?
Blogging is pretty fun. If I got paid enough to make it my full-time gig I’d be happy. Well, throw in a personal assistant to do all the dirty work for me and I’d be happy.

Last time I asked for 5 favorite books and you said you didn’t read much . . . have you read anything good in the past year?
I read The Hunger Games right after Christmas. I read and finished Catching Fire in January. I’m working on Mockingjay right now. Seriously, my kindle Paperwhite is  a miracle worker. I’ve never read this many books in such a short time span. Any book suggestions for me?

What is one hobby/skill you’d like to learn?
Can I name a few? I’d like to sew and crochet better. I’d also like to learn about woodworking. Brad hates wood so I guess I’ll have to be the woodworker in this family.

What is one hobby/skill you’ve tried to learn but flopped at?
Crocheting. I can only do the single stitch. The last time I tried to make something it turned out looking like the beginnings of a bikini bottom. I expect a private lesson soon, Rachel.

What is something you bet we don‘t know or wouldn’t guess about you?
Hmmm. I lost 85 pounds in high school. And I’ve seen Oprah and Jen Aniston in person.

What’s your favorite TV show?
I can’t choose one so here we go. Downton Abbey, Justified, The Walking Dead, Southland, Modern Family, Parks and Rec, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Oprah’s Next Chapter, Our America with Lisa Ling.

Where would you like to vacation to?
California. I think it’d be fun to start in LA and drive up the PCH to San Francisco. I’d also love to go back to Europe. Brad’s never been.

What’s your go-to supper recipe?
Panko Crusted Chicken Stuffed with Ricotta, Spinach, Tomatoes, and Basil, Chicken Marsala, Stove Top One-Dish Chicken Bake, White Chicken Chili. We like chicken.

Have you ever straightened your hair? If so, any photo evidence?
Yes. Here’s the proof. I wear it somewhat straight most of the time since I’m rationing my hair gel. Whenever I get my hair highlighted and cut my stylist blows it out with a round brush. I wish I could do this myself but it kills my arms.

Learn anything fun and exciting?
Any curly hair gel(s) you’d like to recommend?

For curly hair -Ouidad. It is AMAZING!!! My sis-in-law introduced me to it two years ago and there’s no going back. You can check it out at Ouidad.com or Sephora and Ulta carry it. Plus there are Ouidad certified salons that specialize in curly hair and I believe there is one down there in the Indianapolis area! (I myself am a Northern Indiana girl). Good luck!!

If you really want to learn how to crochet go to the crochetcrowd.com. I could never figure it out before (I am a visual learner) but they have great video tutorials on youtube. I have started and FINISHED many projects by following along with Mikey’s videos. Good luck!

  12. I also need to learn woodworking. I’d much prefer that Jeff learn it instead, but he seems to have no interest. Boooo. You got me hooked on Justified! My my, he is one handsome fellow. I’m still in the 1st season (I’m a very slow watcher), but it’s good stuff. I’ll totally give you a crochet lesson when you come out for Snap! You’ll be a pro before you know it. Please don’t drive me out of business.
