Tackling the Baby Registry

Our good friends Kristin and Andrew are expecting their first baby in April. I was so excited about the momentous occasion (none of our close friends around here have babies) that I volunteered to photograph their pregnancy announcement.

Bicycle Pregnancy Announcement

Right before Christmas they found out that it’s a boy, which I’m really excited about because I plan on Owen and Baby H being best buds like Brad and Andrew. And it’s a cool coincidence that the boys will be about the same age apart as Brad and Andrew.

Recently, Kristin asked if I’d meet up with her at Babies “R” Us to help her figure out the things she needed to register for.

Before we met up at the store, Kristin set up an appointment with a Babies “R” Us personal registry partner, or PRP, who are there to educate expectant parents on the registry process and to help select items that will best fit customers’ needs.

We met with the PRP first. She helped set up Kristin’s registry, informed her of the Endless Earnings program (registrants can earn up to 10% on all purchases made from their registry), and told us to let her know if we had any product-specific questions while we were there. She even filled Kristin in on the pre and postnatal classes they offer at the store.

The PRP also told us about the Babies “R” Us registry app, which is pretty awesome.

Registrants can browse products in the app and easily add them to their registries.

IMG_8731

They even have a checklist with 10 categories, ranging from nursery to play time.

IMG_8733

When you click on a category, like ‘car seats’, it takes you to a screen where it lists must-have and good-to-have products. From there you can click on the item, like ‘infant car seat’, and see all the infant car seat options.

Since this was Kristin’s first time checking out at baby stuff, she wanted to look around first to get an idea of all the products she would need to register for, so we spent a little over an hour walking around the store.

 babie r us 5

There was a lot of pointing and questions like, “Do you think I need that?” and “What is that?” and “You do what with that?”

While we were walking around, Kristin would bust out her phone and search for certain products in the app, mostly to see the reviews.

If it were something she was really interested in, she would add it to her registry. When she had time later, she was going to go online and research the products more in depth. Then she would delete any products she no longer wanted from the registry.

I think I had the entire store memorized by the time we were done.

If you’re expecting a little one, there will be a registry party in all Babies “R” Us standalone stores on Saturday, January 16th, from 11 AM to 12 PM. You’ll be able to get personalized help you need to create or update your registry. There will also be games, giveaways, and a meet & greet with other parents-to-be.
I’m also giving away a $100 Babies “R” Us gift card!

  38. I’m not expecting, however I’m the grandma that takes care of my grandson while my son and daughter in law are working daily. They are expecting their second baby in March,it’s a girl.
I would say the double BOB is a must have. They have the single one now and daily walks are so much better. When the second one comes walks will be difficult without the BOB.
I highly recommend the BOB to all parents and grandparents, expensive but a great gift even if you’re not a jogger.

Our #1 registry item is the City Mini stroller! We’re so pumped about it!

  43. Our must have is a lightweight jogging stroller.

  44. It’s hard to come up with just 1 must-have registry item! I’m inclined to say my Boppy. It was so handy and we used it for at least the first 7 or 8 months. We used it for nursing, tummy time and propping the little guy up.

  45. We could not have survived without our rock n play!

  46. My number 1 baby item was the Floppy brand cart cover! I used mine for both kids. I worried about spending more on that one than other brands (so of course I bought cheaper brands and didn’t like them), and went back and got the Floppy one.

  47. My number one must have was the Aden and Anais Muslin blankets, they’re great for nursing covers, changing pad on the go, burp cloth, blocking baby from weather elements. They are very light weight and the best all in one blanket I have found!

  48. Kylynne Cartor says:

Mini Arc Co Sleeper! Don’t think I’ll be ready to out babyin the crib right away.

  50. Mary Gillespie says:

My must have item is a NoseFreda. BabyG is now 7 months old and that thing has saved us on more than one occasion. I know it looks gross and the idea of it is gross. However, what’s more disgusting for me is the idea of not cleaning out a bulb sucker properly and it growing mold. It happens. I’ve seen it. The NoseFreda isn’t only more hygienic it’s better for the baby. I like that I have control over the suction, which you don’t have with the bulb.

  51. Carrie Riley says:

Diaper Dekor, learned this this the hard way. Registered for the lame Diaper Genie and was less than impressed. I bought the Diaper Dekor and love it. You can even use regular trash bags in it.

  56. My #1 registry item still needed/wanted is a large baby swing.

  57. Besides the obvious diapers, I am torn between a quality soft-sided carrier and a swing. Those were the two things that made the newborn days (and beyond) so much more enjoyable for baby and me. My son loved going on walks in the carrier, but also loved sleeping in the swing.

  58. My number one registry item is a medela double breast pump!

  59. My must have registry item would have to be a baby rocker/bouncer. It keeps her entertained and happy!

I’m halfway to my third child, and we just received two more children through foster care (not really in our plans, but what do you do when God sets you up?)

If these two stay through the birth, I’ll have four children under 2 1/2. I used to have a triple stroller in my early foster care days, and I would LOVE to have another. But then I’ll still need a place for the fourth small child, so I’d love to get an Ergo baby carrier.
