Inexpensive Upholstered Headboards

Almost two years ago, I started looking into upholstered headboards for our master bedroom. When I started showing Brad, he kept saying they looked like they were for “old people”. I told him he didn’t know what he was talking about and to “pipe down, whippersnapper.”

You may or may not be aware, but there are some awesome upholstered headboards out there for great prices. And most get pretty good reviews. So I rounded up a handful so you could see for yourself. FYI, this isn’t sponsored, I’m just sharing the money-saving love.

Inexpensive upholstered headboards!

1. Safavieh Connie Headboard
2. Skyline Tufted Wingback Headboard
3. Safavieh Hallmar Headboard
4. Roma Tufted Wingback Headboard
5. Juliette Headboard
6. Clip Corner Nailhead Headboard

Guess what? I won the those-headboards-are-for-old-people debate (I mean, we are in our thirties now) with Brad, and I purchased the Roma tufted wingback headboard on Cyber Monday, 2013. I actually paid more than what it was this past Cyber Monday. Because Cyber Monday, 2015 that headboard was $178! $178 for a KING-SIZE HEADBOARD!

So if you’re in the market for a new headboard, definitely be on the lookout around Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

And in case you’re wondering, we really like the headboard. When one of my friends came over she asked if I got it from Pottery Barn. If you buy it, just make sure you read the reviews about the assembly.

Funny story: as I was typing up this post Brad looked over my shoulder and said, “Whatcha doin’?” Apparently, he thought I was in the market for another geriatric headboard.

  1. Ahh I love the look of these but my cats think they are scratching posts so I can’t have one. 🙁

  2. I love these headboards! I like the Skyline and love that they have so many colors to offer! Once we move, this will be on my list!

  3. A couple years ago, I almost bought Skyline Headboard (#5) on Target.com. I ended up finding the exact same one cheaper on the Hope Depot website (with free delivery!) so I bought it there. I love the one you chose though! They are all very nice.

Hilarious! Pipe down, sonny, and stay off my lawn! HA

Love these headboards – wouldn’t have thought of Target for a headboard!

  5. Amber MacNeil says:

I like the Skyline Tufted Wingback headboard, too. But what I don’t understand us why the King and California King are $200 cheaper than the smaller ones?? We have a queen size bed. :-/

    1. Maybe there’s a surplus of those sizes and they’re wanting to get rid of them?

Upgrade to a king! You’ll never look back. We upgraded a year ago from a queen. Now when we sleep in queen beds when we visit our parents’ we’re like, “Man, this is so cramped!” Haha!

  6. What the what?! I would have never thought to look at target for headboards. I love these! I’m so tired of our bed. We need a new bed frame/headboard. Our IKEA bed held up nicely but I’m no longer into the look of it….and it didn’t fare well when we moved. Maybe I can talk my husband into one of these.

    1. That stinks that your IKEA bed didn’t hold up well, but I guess it’s kind of assumed that IKEA furniture doesn’t last a really long time. Definitely look into these– they’re pretty nice for the price!

  7. Great prices! I love Target and they always go for the win. A friend of mine added an upholstered headboard to her room but her husband made it out of cheap plywood, batting and some nice fabric. They added the buttons and pillow like textured with a heavy duty stapler. it turned out great. This is the next best thing to me.

    1. That’s awesome! I thought about doing that but after crunching the numbers and determining that it would probably take me forever to finish it I decided to just shell out the cash. Hah!

  8. I absolutely LOVE that first one! Definitely looking into that style once I move out of my parents house within the next year or so. My bed is falling apart and it will be the first piece of furniture on the curb! 🙂

  9. A few months ago I ordered the Roma tufted headboard…twice…and never received either. There seems to be a problem with the delivery company Target uses for oversized purchases. My advice is read reviews, ask questions, and be prepared for several potential delays. I wish my comment was to tell you how wonderful I found the headboard to be, because I had high hopes that it would indeed be wonderful!

  10. It’s like you know me!!! I was seriously searching for a headboard but can’t decide if I want a headboard for our queen or to get a headboard for a king and buy a king mattress. I really want one, but I don’t know if it’s worth spending that much money. Do you know of any places for a good mattress? It doesn’t have to be super cheap, but at least a good quality at a good price.

    1. Haha! We have ESP. I say go for the king. I wish we would’ve gotten one sooner. Now when we visit our parents’ and sleep in queen size beds we’re all like ‘why are you so close to me?’ Hah! I wish I could recommend the king mattress that we got but it’s already starting to have dents where we sleep. 🙁 Some of my friends have had good luck with Costco for mattresses. And definitely hit up sales like on Labor Day or Columbus Day.

  11. Thank you for posting this info. We bought one and saved $130 due to the 15% and 10% and the Target 5% for using their card. Hope it is as nice as it looks!

  12. I’ve been keeping an eye out for the Skyline beds for awhile now. I love the one you bought!! It’s so pretty, and definitely not for old people. Haha. We are upgrading our bed to a King after our wedding in a few months, and I cannot tell you how excited I am about that. 🙂 I’ll have to keep these in mind.

    1. I love the Skyline headboard. Woot, for upgrading to a king! I’m so glad we did. Just wish we did it sooner. When I was pregnant my pregnancy pillow took up 2/3 of the bed. Hah!

  13. This is one old person who loves these rich and textured upholstered headboards. Especially the tufted ones. ( wink) Hugs!

  14. Do you have a post of what it looks like in your master bedroom?

      1. When you are done can you come make over mine? 😉 We have lived in our current apartment for a year and have only hung up 2 pictures. I am having the hardest time decorating this new place and making decisions on furniture.

        1. Hah! I’ll get right on it. Don’t feel too bad, we’ve lived in our house for 5 years and I’m finally getting around to our master bedroom.

  15. I can ONLY wish to get a headboard like that. I don’t think we’ll EVER get around to our master bedroom! You’re inspiring me though…

  16. Just curious, but what color Roma tufted headboard did you get? I am thinking of getting that one, but it’s so hard to tell from the pictures and the reviews how accurate the colors are. Thanks!

  17. Trisha RItter says:

Will these target headboards allow for a box spring under the mattress?

    1. They will but it may not look right depending on the height of your mattress and box springs. We have a 14.5″ thick mattress and a 4.5″ low profile box spring. Hope that helps!

      1. Trisha RItter says:

Mine both together are not quite 17 inches so I would think if yours worked, this would work too. Hmm:)))) They are all so cute!!!
