Born to Bargain Shop

I credit my very frugal mother for instilling the value of never paying retail price for items.
Love that sweater? Don’t worry, it’ll be on sale next weekend AND you can use a coupon.
That’s what she would always tell me and usually she was right. So I listened and learned.

Case and point was my latest bargain shopping achievement:
these 11×14 custom black frames from Hobby Lobby.
I used one to stage the mossy ampersand.

I found them in the 80% off home decor clearance aisle. When I initially saw them they were $18 each, marketed down from $90. $90! Each! But I couldn’t muster up the courage to buy them at that price, so I kept my eye on them. Every Tuesday in between therapy patients I would make my usual trip to Hobby Lobby. Stalking them… for 2 weeks.

Finally, as I was walking in one Tuesday, I saw it posted on the door– “90% off home decor”.
I practically ran to the clearance aisle. There they were… for $9. $9!  If there was another person in the aisle I probably would have asked them to give me a high five to celebrate my accomplishment. I scooped them into my arms like I was at the Running of the Brides at Filene’s Basement.

What are my plans for these unwanted beauties you ask?
Well, their new home will be in my office… after I redo it… after the wedding.
As of right now, I plan on turning them into cork boards or maybe dry erase boards.

What’s your proudest {or best} bargain find?

  6. My newst mirror was a watch and wait sort of affair. Honestly I think it might be becoming a small sickness to see how long i can wait it out and see if it’s still there.. I waited down to 80% off for my oval $150 mirror but then my want for it overcame my ability to see if I could wait it down to the 90% off level. If was indeed the right choice.. I oddly enough had to be back the next day which was the 90% off day and almost ALL the stuff from the day before was gone.. They said some lady came in as they opened and bought them out of 90% stuff.. well ha ha!. she did not get my mirror!
