Guest Bedroom Makeover Part One + Giveaway

You know how they call preparing your home for a baby nesting?  Well, I wouldn’t call what I’m feeling nesting.  I’d phrase it as holy moly we’re having a baby– we need to get stuff done.  One of the things on our to-do list is the guest bedroom.  Since Brad is losing his man cave, some of his things will need to be moved into the guest bedroom– mainly his guitars and amp.  But still we need to make space.

I’ve been meaning to tackle the guest bedroom for a while now, and thankfully Sherwin-Williams (and the impending birth of the nugget) have given me the push I need to get this room done.  It’s not like the room looks bad right now, it just hasn’t received the love it deserves.  You know how guest bedrooms can become kind of a mix of random things thrown together?  That’s our guest bedroom.

Sherwin-Williams has partnered with me to refresh our guest bedroom.  They have a bunch of awesome color selection tools to use.  I decided to go with ColorSnap®, which is a free smartphone app.

You can color match a photo, either taken with your smartphone camera or a photo from your photo gallery.

You also have the option to explore colors by choosing colors for a custom palette, no photo needed.

My inspiration for the guest bedroom is this photo of pillows by Caitlin Wilson.  I love the mix of gray, coral, navy, and mint.

I saved the photo to my phone and opened it in ColorSnap®.

Then, by using my finger I selected a color palette from the photo.  You have the option to change the color details (lightness, saturation, hue) of each color.

When I finished I saved the color palette to my phone and also had the app email me the color palette.

I’m excited to get this project started so I can check one more thing off my holy moly we’re having a baby– we need to get stuff done list.

Guest bedrooms are hard, aren’t they!
Ours is a combo of a guest bedroom/office/project graveyard.
Anyone that stays over gets a lovely view of All the projects that couldn’t. Haha.
Would be nice to give it a coat of paint, maybe then I would get the motivation to turn it into a room that we would WANT to stay in, instead of a room where we shut the door to hide.

Well, we’re in a rental right now so no painting allowed, but if I could I would makeover the living and dining room areas (they connect)! Then again the guest room needs some work…

I would makeover my families living room- right now there is white primer and beige on the walls, can’t decide on a color.

  6. Ashley Bee says

Our bathroom needs a paint-redo! The color I choose initially is way too bright (think mint toothpaste) when what I really wanted was a muted seafoam.

  7. Margot C says

I really need to do my step-son’s bedroom over; it’s just drab. I don’t know what I was thinking!

  8. Jody says

Such a great app, looking forward to trying it! My deck needs a makeover badly. With the weather getting nice, I’m eager to get started, so I can enjoy spending time out there!

  12. Katelynn says

I would make over our bathroom, it is in desperate need of new paint, the previous owners but a yellow/beige color over dark green and the paint quality is just awful! The vanity could use a paint makeover as well

I’ve used the ColorSnap app in the past, but it looks like it is so much better now. Thanks for sharing this! We just experienced flooding in our living room, which I painted with Sherwin Williams paint 3 years ago. I look forward to using this app to come up with some new paint and color combinations for this room.

  14. Brie says

Sweet app, and love the colors you selected! We want to make over our spare bedroom (mostly just miscellaneous storage right now) into a nursery since we are also expecting our first (in October)! :) We’re waiting for another week and a half to find out the gender before we really start making plans …

  15. Laura says

My living/dining room could use some help. So could my kitchen for that matter. Basically the whole first floor.

  16. Ashton says

I would loveee to paint my bedroom! It’s the only room in the house that hasn’t been painted since me and my fiance’ bought it last year!

Holy Cow … I’m having a baby too and need to turn one room into a nursery/guest room on a budget! we. need. paint! :)

  20. Christina C says

Every room in the house needs new paint! I think I would start on my girls room in nearly the same color scheme as yours. I recently made them quilts in similar colors-pale pink, light turquoise white and brown, yet still haven’t painted…number 35/1000 in my to-do list.

  21. Finon says

Our youngest daughter is starting her soph year of college much farther from home than this first year…. So changing her room to guest room/craft room (woohoo!) will start with a fresh new color of paint! Thanks!
