MirrorMate Review and Giveaway

Hello, lovely friends! Today I’m sharing an awesome product and an equally awesome giveaway with you. I can sense your excitement already.

mirrormate review and mirrormate giveaway

A couple months ago my parents showed up to our house with my late maternal great grandparents’ mirror. (Have you told you I come from a family of antique/family heirloom hoarders? Seriously, why buy new when you can hoard?)  I asked my mom if I could have the mirror to hang above my late maternal grandparents’ buffet, that I recently re-coated, in the dining room section of our great room. I was happy to get a free mirror (with sentimental value) and my mom was happy to get it out of her basement. Win-win.

But, the mirror has some chips along the edges. I mean, the mirror is who-knows-how-old so that’s to be expected. It also has a slight bevel but I wanted it to look more finished. So I called up, er, emailed up my friends at Mirror Mate and asked if I could try one of their mirror frames on the mirror. They were excited to see me use the frame on a freestanding mirror since most people purchase the frames for bathroom mirrors. Always thinking outside the box I am.

I wanted a frame that wasn’t 100% permanent just in case I wanted to change it up down the road so a MirrorMate frame was the perfect choice.

I went with the white Pacifica frame. It arrived in four sections, along with all the other materials we needed to assemble the frame.

how to assemble mirrormate

Assembling the frame was incredibly easy. We turned the four frame sections face down. Working one corner at a time, we used the included glue on the adjoining ends, and then we inserted the three frame connectors. We needed to use a hammer to lightly tap some into place. Then it was time to wait at least an hour for the frame to dry.

While the frame was drying, I cleaned the mirror with rubbing alcohol. I used the rubbing alcohol along the edges where the adhesive would meet the mirror. It wasn’t really necessary to clean the entire mirror with rubbing alcohol.

After waiting an hour or two, we positioned the frame on top of the mirror and got it as square and level as possible we adhered the two cardboard placement corners to the mirror.

After the placement corners were secured we removed the frame and peeled off the backing from the adhesive strips.

Then we placed the frame back onto the mirror, using the placement corners as our guides. After pressing on the frame, making sure it was in place, we removed the placement corners and we were done with the MirrorMate installation.

The mirror came with loops on the back so I used 16 gauge picture hanging wire on the loops. Since the mirror is on the heavier side, we drilled two 1-1/4 screws into two different studs. We hung the wire onto both screws.

The distance between the studs and position above the buffet worked out perfectly. We only had to shift the buffet a few inches to one side.

I wish the mirror was taller, due to our 12 foot tall walls (we have a vaulted ceiling in our great room). However, the length of the mirror works well in terms of the length of the buffet. But let’s all remember: the mirror was free. So I’m taking it for now.

Come back tomorrow to see the finished, styled buffet. I posted a sneak peek of the lamps I’m using on Instagram a couple months ago. See, even more proof that social media followers get the scoop before everyone else.

Now it’s your chance to win a $150 credit to use toward a MirrorMate frame for your home. Can I get a “Woot!”? They’re perfect for freestanding mirrors, like mine, or bathroom mirrors.

You must use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter the giveaway. Giveaway is open to US residents only. Sorry international readers. I still love you though.
